How a Wilden Pump Works

When the diaphragm moves forward, it generates discharge pressure that pushes the fluid outward. The outlet valve opens while the inlet valve closes. This process ensures that the fluid exits the pump chamber without flowing back through the inlet valve.

Advantages of Wilden Pumps

Wilden pumps are easy to install and require relatively low maintenance costs. Diaphragm pumps are also energy-efficient and offer a long service life. Their compact design makes them highly portable and easy to move from one location to another.

These pumps are practical and versatile because the flow direction and pressure can easily be adjusted. In addition, diaphragm pumps are capable of handling a wide variety of materials, including sludge and hazardous chemicals.

Disadvantages of Wilden Pumps

Compared to other pump types such as centrifugal pumps, diaphragm pumps generally have lower flow capacity. The pumping capacity depends more on the pump size rather than the suction or discharge speed. In addition, these pumps often require pulsation dampeners to reduce pump pulsation.

For larger-capacity operations, diaphragm pumps may have lower efficiency. They can also produce less accurate discharge pressure at the end of the pumping cycle. To achieve maximum performance, the pump should typically be operated at around twenty cubic feet per minute and one hundred PSI air pressure.
