Posted on15/05/2024

Replacing or buying a new energy-saving air compressor in Singapore are no longer a concern, thanks to government support through the Energy Efficient Grant!

In line with Singapore Budget 2024 initiatives, the Energy Efficiency Grant (EEG) will undergo enhancements and expansions to cover additional sectors. Effective April 1, 2024, enterprises operating in Manufacturing (including Food Manufacturing), Food Services, and Retail sectors will gain access to the EEG. Subsequently, other sectors (Construction, Maritime, and Data Centers and their users) will be gradually included, by the end of 2024.

So, what is Energy Efficient Grant (EEG)?

The Energy Efficiency Grant helps businesses transition towards being more energy efficient by co-funding investments in energy-efficient equipment with the support of the government.

Below are the two tiers of support under EEG:

*only applicable for companies in the Manufacturing sector.

Energy Efficient Grant (EEG) Eligibility:

*only applicable for companies in the Manufacturing sector.

For Compressed Air System category in EEG equipment, not every type of compressor will be approved. Please refer to the following technical requirements:

FAQ

  1. How to verify SSIC Code?

  1. Is it possible to deploy equipment to a residential address?
No,Businesses operating from residential addresses or Home-based Businesses (HBBs) are not eligible.

  1. What happens if the grant cap is fully utilized?
Companies that have fully utilized their grant caps will not be eligible for further support within the grant cap's validity period. Therefore, companies are encouraged to carefully plan the use of the EEG for their purchases.

  1. How many EEG (Base) grants can a company apply for?
Companies can submit multiple EEG (Base) and EEG (Advanced) applications based on their business needs. However, each company will be subject to a $350,000 grant cap across all their EEG (Base) and EEG (Advanced) applications.

  1. What is the difference between EEG (Base) and the EEG (Advanced)?
The EEG (Advanced) can support non-pre-approved equipment if the equipment demonstrates energy savings exceeding 350 tonnes of lifetime carbon abatement.
Support under the EEG (Advanced) is determined by the lower of;
  1. Support levels under the EEG (Base) based on the company’s size or
  2. The equipment’s expected lifetime carbon abatement. Support is capped at $350,000 across all of a company’s EEG (Base) and EEG (Advanced) applications.
For the EEG (Advanced), companies must also provide a third-party assessment report from a whitelisted qualified assessor on the projected energy savings generated by the purchase of the energy-efficient equipment, which is not required for the EEG (Base).

  1. Can I apply for EEG (Advanced) after applying for EEG (Base)?
Certainly. Nevertheless, any grant support received from the company's prior EEG (Base) and EEG (Advanced) applications will be deducted from the total $350,000 grant cap allocated for each company.

7. Does the EEG (Advanced) cover the cost to hire a third-party qualified assessor?
No, The EEG (Advanced) solely encompasses the acquisition of energy-efficient equipment and any essential costs to ensure the functionality of the equipment/system. Any additional expenses related to installation, assessment, and administration must be covered by the applicant company.

8. How is the grant support for EEG being calculated?
Please refer to the following link.

9. What is the lifetime carbon abatement refer to?
Refers to the total amount of carbon emissions reduced over the entire lifespan of the equipment or product. It encompasses the emissions saved from the time the equipment is put into use until the end of its operational life. So, essentially, it refers to the cumulative carbon reduction achieved throughout the product's lifetime.
